Central Tablelands Regional Water Security Project
THE PROJECT
Orange City Council in conjunction with Central Tablelands Water has completed a preliminary design and has secured a grant to complete Stage 1 of the Project and construct the works from Orange to Blayney.
THE SOLUTION
The project in its entirety comprised the following components:
- 60 kilometres potable pipeline and associated infrastructure from Orange to Carcoar Filtration Plant via Orange Airport, Spring Hill, Milthorpe, Blayney and Carcoar
- Pumping stations for bi-directional water transfers
- Other miscellaneous items including sewer rising main from Spring HIll to Orange and establishment of a pressure boosted zone in East Orange
- A unique supply chain solution using sea, rail and road ensured Viadux could respond quickly to contractor requirements and minimise cost for the asset owners
THE RESULT
This project will deliver an improved water security to the customers of Central Tablelands Water catering for future growth. Orange City Council and Central Tablelands Water will gain access to emergency water in the case of a catastrophic system failure such as a fire at the water filtration plant and also be able to ensure water quantity and quality to Orange Airport and Spring Hill.
The works will effect replace the pipeline from Carcoar through to Blayney and Millthorpe and offer the opportunity to temporarily mothball the use of the Blayney water filtration plant, minimizing water production costs.
