Flow Calculator

INTRODUCTION AND NOTES ON USE

  1. Select DN from the drop down boxes for Nominal Diameter. Mean Internal Diameter* (mm) will be automatically selected.
  2. Insert Headloss Gradient S (m/km).
  3. Insert Roughness k (mm). NOTE: Left mouse button click outside the data entry box, or hitting the TAB key will register data.
  4. Output: Velocity v (m/s) and Discharge Q (L/s).

The Calculations are derived from the following Colebrook-White equation:

v = -2 (2 g D S)0.5 log(k/3.7/D + 2.51ν/D/(2 g D S)0.5)

Where

g = Gravitational acceleration, 9.81 m/s/s

D = Mean Internal Diameter*, mm

S = Slope, m/km

k = Colebrook-White roughness coefficient, mm

ν = Kinematic viscosity of water, 1.14E -06 m2/s

v = Flow velocity, m/s

Q = Discharge, L/s
